Treatment Guideline and Explanation
No specific treatment, treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Mild cases (mild oliguria, normal blood pressure) require only careful monitoring of blood pressure and fluid intake and restriction of potassium intake. Diuretics are not routinely indicated, since edema is rarely massive. A 10-day course of penicillin is recommended; however, it does not affect the natural course of glomerulonephritis but prevents spreading of remaining nephritogenic strains of Streptococcus to the contacts. Treatment is mainly supportive and it includes:
Bed rest:
The patient should take complete bed rest
Diet:
Protein restricted (0.5 gm/kg/day)
Salt restricted: No added salt in the diet
Potassium and potassium containing food and fruits restricted
